I wasn't sure what to expect with this book when I read it. This is partially because I read the prequels first, and they were pure erotica. This, however, is also suspense. I didn't look too closely at the blurb because I enjoyed the prequels, so the suspense aspect took me by surprise. For clarification, it was a welcome surprise. I'm not super big on erotica, but I love a good mystery.Fox writes her characters well and really dives into the main character's head while still writing in third person, which is nice. I love a good deep third person POV. Unfortunately, I don't particularly care for the main character. It's not that she's a unlikable character because she is smart, resourceful, and generally a good person. I want her to get to the bottom of this and get out of this obviously dangerous situation, but I feel like I don't know her very well despite everything being from her perspective. The other characters are very well developed. I really like Greg and Ethan, and I have a love/hate relationship with Gia. I really want to get to know her better and hope she's in the next book more.
The plot is very interesting. Because the mystery took me by surprise (yes, I'm a dufus who didn't read the blurb), I'm eager to know what happens next. I will add, however, that this didn't feel like a complete book. I understand it's part of a series, but even individual books in a series should have a sense of closure at the end, and I didn't feel that with this book.
Also, while I'm not a big fan of erotica, Fox is an excellent writer when it comes to these moments. Some of the BDSM makes me uncomfortable, but that's a reflection on me, not at all on the way they're written. My favorite scene was the one smack-dab in the middle. Very nicely done!
Overall, this is a good book with an engaging plot. I am eager to see where the series goes!

Fool's Gold is a novel with dark aspects. Lacie D. Fox is a talented author in the way she depicts this story within her writing with deceit and danger apparent. Many twists and turns as you go through the chapters, hold on for the roller coaster ride that this story will surely take you on.
This book is an emotional roller coaster! So many ups and downs. Twists and turns. One minute I am happy and smiling. The next I am pissed because some of the guys are not likeable guys. It is definitely not your typical billionaire book. And always......hot hot hot!!!
